Keith Barker is a Métis artist from Northwestern Ontario. A graduate of the George Brown Theatre School, he was the recipient of the SATAwards for excellence in playwrighting, and the Yukon Arts Audience Award for Best Art for Social Change.
His work has been produced by New Harlem Productions, Saskatchewan Native Theatre, Gwaandak Theatre, and Magnus Theatre. His work has also been presented as part of the Fresh Ground New Works at Harbourfront’s World Stage Festival, the Weesageechak Begins to Dance Festival (Toronto), the Talking Stick Festival (Vancouver), Spring Works Festival (Stratford), Aboriginal Summer Play Readings Festival (Whitehorse) and the Matariki Festival (New Zealand).
Keith was the administrator of the Young Voices Program, co-coordinator of the Youthdale Theatre Program and a guest artist for the Sage Hill Writing Experience in Saskatchewan. He is a former member of the Toronto Arts Council Theatre Committee, a former board member for the Indigenous Performing Arts Alliance. His newest creation, This Is How We Got Here, premiered at the SummerWorks Performance Festival in August 2016 and was published by Playwrights Canada Press in 2017. It was recently nominated for the 2018 Governor General’s Literary Award for Drama.
