STATEMENT:
Native Earth is seeking submissions from Indigenous* performing artists, storytellers, playwrights, and creatives living in Canada that are interested in working/collaborating with Native Earth in various capacities. We encourage recent graduates, new actors as well as artists we have hired in the past to submit 

NATIVE EARTH’S MANDATE:
Native Earth Performing Arts is Canada’s oldest professional Indigenous theatre company. Currently in our 41st year, we are dedicated to creating, developing and producing professional artistic expressions of the Indigenous experience in Canada.

OBJECTIVE:
As new leadership at Native Earth, we would like to extend an invitation to Indigenous* actors and playwrights that are interested in working with our organization to attend this general call.  

We hope to meet individuals that are interested in future development programs offered by NEPA or partner orgs, NEPA productions, the Weesageechak Begins to Dance Festival, and our Animikiig creator’s unit.

THEATRE AUDITIONS

DATES:
January 24 & 25, 10am-3pm EST

REQUIREMENTS:
Equity members will be seen first at all open audition calls. Equity members cast in this production will be engaged under an Equity contract. CAEA members: please bring your membership card to the audition.

ACTORS: 
Please prepare two contrasting monologues (no more than 2 minutes each) to present in your time slot that you feel best showcases your strengths as an artist. You may be asked to cold read as well.  

PLAYWRIGHTS:
Please submit a short (maximum 3 pages) excerpt of your work in advance and be prepared to discuss your work. How does it fit in with NEPA’s mandate? How might NEPA be able to help you and your work grow?  

SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS:
Please send your bio, headshot, demo reel (if applicable), or any materials (scripts, portfolio) pertaining to your artistry. 
 
We are only accepting audition requests for the dates indicated. 
At this time, we are only accepting audition requests from artists who are legally able to work in Canada.

AGENTS:
While we welcome e-pitches, we strongly advise you to have your clients submit individually while clearly indicating that you represent them in their email. 

All submissions must indicate if the artist is Equity or Non-Equity.
All submissions must indicate if the artist is First Nations, Inuit, Métis or of another Indigenous identity.

SUBMISSION DEADLINE:
Please send submissions NO LATER THAN
JANUARY 10, 2024 AT 6:00PM EST

Limited spots available, if enough interest, spots will be filled via lottery system.
Confirmed spots will be notified on January 12th via email and will be given a time slot + date.
 

*NEPA defines “Indigenous” as self-identified (status or non-status) First Nations, Inuit and Métis from Turtle Island (North America) as well as Indigenous peoples from other regions including but not limited to Latin America, Australia, New Zealand and Greenland.
