Urgency, vulnerability, ferocity, beauty…voices of passion are ageless.

As Canada commemorates its 150th, Continuum explores the voices from the heart that shape us. World premieres by Anna Hostman, James Rolfe and Scott Wilson explore climate change in Canada’s Arctic Archipelago, the infamous diaries of Sir William Lyon Mackenzie King, and the poetry of Steven Heighton; “John’s Canoe” pairs film of an iconic statue with the music of Ann Southam. For this ambitious chamber concert we weave together a vast landscape of stories, reflections, hopes and dreams through song, spoken word, and multimedia.

Pre-Concert Demonstration

Picking up on our Canada 150 theme – and commemorating the 85th anniversary of his birth – we invite you to join us at 7:45 pm for a special pre-concert performance by Glenn Gould of music from Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier, Book 2, as reproduced on Steinway’s Spirio, the world’s finest high-resolution player piano. As Glenn Gould performs the works on film, the Spirio will reproduce his touch – almost as if you were experiencing his performance live. The piano will then be featured (in a more conventional fashion) throughout the Urgent Voices performance.
